Artist Bio:
My artwork is shaped by daily interactions with the natural world-whether it's the stillness of the bush or the ever-changing rhythm of the ocean. These landscapes not only inspire me, they are part of my routine and identity, deeply connected to my life both past and present.
Most of my pieces are carved from timber, chosen for its unique grain, strength, and suitability for pyrography. Each work is enhanced with images burned directly into the wood, creating layered surfaces that capture both texture and story. I also work with aerated concrete, which offers a bold contrast to timber and carves beautifully, adding diversity to my practice.
My connection to the ocean runs deep-first through my years in the navy, then through a lifelong love of surfing and swimming. Now in retirement, my days revolve around the beach and the studio. This balance of nature and creativity keeps me grounded and fuels my work.
Through carving and burning, I explore the stories that come from living closely with the land and sea- each piece a reflection of place, memory, and the materials themselves.
