Artist Bio:
My work draws inspiration from the world around me-whether it's the sparkling waters of Port Stephens or the highs and lows of la dolce vita. This exhibition features a variety of styles and materials, showcasing the expressive range of mosaic as an art form.
Each piece begins with a simple idea- maybe a note in my workbook, a photo, or a material that catches my eye. I use the direct method, placing each tessera directly into the thinset. This technique creates texture and allows light to bounce off the surfaces, giving each work a vibrant, dimensional feel. There's no going back-cement is cement-so every choice counts.
I typically work with Mexican smalti, a handmade glass full of character and depth.
I also use shells, broken dishes, funeral urns, beads, Bisazza glass, plastics-anything I can upcycle and give new life. I prefer not to grout, letting the materials speak for themselves.
What started as a hobby quickly grew into a passion. Mosaic is endlessly adaptable: art or craft, floor or wall, inside or out, realistic or abstract. For me, it's a joyful, layered process where structure meets creativity, and each fragment becomes part of a larger story.
