Lion Studios Consignment Terms & Conditions

By entering into a consignment agreement with Lion Studios, you, the artist, agree to the following terms and conditions:


  1. Invitation-Only Program Selling on consignment with Lion Studios is by invitation only. All artwork must be approved by Lion Studios and meet our strict standards of presentation and quality. If you have not received an invitation but would like to be considered for consignment, please contact us for further details.

  2. Ownership - All artwork remains the property of the artist until it is sold. Lion Studios acknowledges and respects your ownership rights and will not claim any ownership over your art.

  3. Insurance - The artist is responsible for ensuring their artwork while it is in the possession of Lion Studios. Lion Studios will take all reasonable care to handle and store your artwork, but we will not be held liable for any loss, theft, or damage during the consignment period.

  4. Care and Responsibility - While Lion Studios commits to providing careful handling of your artwork, we are not responsible for any unforeseen circumstances that may result in damage or loss. The artist agrees to release Lion Studios from any claims related to the condition of the artwork while in our possession.

  5. Commission and Payment - Lion Studios will retain a 30% commission on all sales of consigned artwork. The artist will receive payment for the remaining 70% of the sale price. Reporting is completed on a monthly basis and paid into your account on the 15th of the following month.

  6. Promotional Use of Artwork - By agreeing to consign artwork with Lion Studios, the artist grants permission for us to use images of the artwork for promotional purposes only. These images may be used in our online catalogue, social media, advertisements, or other marketing materials to promote the artwork and the gallery.

  7. Inventory and Reporting - Lion Studios will provide the artist with monthly sales reports and inventory updates. These reports will detail the number of sales, remaining stock, and any relevant information regarding your consigned artwork.

  8. Presentation Standards - All items must be professionally presented. Original artwork must be professionally framed. Lion Studios offers a special discounted option for framing in our preferred styles, which include black, white, or oak frames. Please note that we do not accept frames from Kmart, Ikea, or Spotlight, as these are made from compressed cardboard and do not meet our customers' expectations. We also only accept quality giclee’ art reproductions. Please consult with us about your framing and presentation options to ensure they meet our standards.

  9. Restocking - The artist has the option to restock consigned artwork as needed. Lion Studios will notify the artist when inventory is low, and the artist may provide additional pieces for sale upon agreement.

  10. Termination of Agreement - Either party may terminate the consignment agreement with 30 days’ notice. Upon termination, the artwork will be returned to the artist at their expense, or the artist may request for the artwork to be donated or disposed of after the notice period.

  11. Web-Ready FilesTo ensure thorough reporting and to allow us to promote your creations as part of our online gallery, we require you to provide a web-ready file for each product. The ideal image size for our website is 1200px by 1200px (square format). We offer a file service preparation, if you don’t currently have product photography for $15 per product. Along with your image, please include the following details for each product:


    Product name

    Retail price

    Product size


    For easier tracking and organisation, please name your product image using the following format: [Product Name][Size][Price] (e.g., "Sunset_View_30x40_250"). This will help us upload your artwork to the website efficiently and accurately. Files are best shared with a file sharing platform.

  12. Miscellaneous These terms are subject to change with written notice to the artist.


Selling Artwork Online through Lion Studios


For artists who choose to sell their images online through Lion Studios, you agree to the following additional terms:


  • Copyright: The artist retains full copyright over their images. By agreeing to sell through Lion Studios, you authorise us to sell your artwork on your behalf through our online store.

  • Pricing: The artist sets the retail price for their artwork. Lion Studios retains the retail cost of producing the product (including printing and framing) and the cost of shipping to the purchaser (upto a maximum of 15% of the purchase price). Pricing should account for selling at other galleries where commission rates may be up to 40%. We aim to ensure our online prices are competitive without undercutting other venues.

  • No Stock Requirements: Artists do not need to keep or pay for stock in advance. All ordering and payment processes are handled by Lion Studios, and the artist will receive monthly royalties based on sales.

  • Monthly Royalties: Artists will receive their royalty payments monthly, based on sales made during the previous month.

These terms are subject to change with written notice to the artist.

By consigning your artwork to Lion Studios, you acknowledge and accept these terms and conditions. We look forward to a successful partnership and to showcasing your amazing work.

File Preparation

To ensure thorough reporting and allow us to showcase your creations in our online gallery, please follow these simple steps to provide the necessary files for each product. We are here to help so if you are finding these steps difficult please reach out and book an instore appointment with us and we will help you out. 

  1. Prepare Your Image

    • Ensure your image is the following size:

      • Square format: 1200px by 1200px @72dpi.

    • If you need help resizing your image, there are many free online tools (like Canva, Pixlr, or Fotor) that can assist with this.

  2. Name Your Image File

    • Please name your image using the following format:
      [Product Name][Size][Price]
      Example: "Sunset_View_30x40_250"

    • This helps us stay organized and ensures we can quickly upload your artwork to the gallery with the correct details.

  3. Provide the Following Details
    Along with your image, include these details for each artwork:

    • Product Name: Give your artwork a unique title.

    • Retail Price: Include the price at which you'd like your artwork to be sold.

    • Product Size: Specify the dimensions of the artwork (e.g., 30x40 cm, 50x70 cm, etc.).

  4. Send Your Files

    • Once you've prepared your image and details, please send them to us via your preferred file-sharing method. We recommend DropBox or WeTransfer

    • You can attach multiple images and product details if you're submitting several artworks.
