Artist Bio:

I use mark making to explore the interplay between nature and time, recognising change as the only true constant. The imagery in this body of work, Habitat, is sourced directly from the local environment, reflecting my ongoing relationship with the landscape.

Creating Habitat began with drawing plants and birds from the bushland near my home. Once I finalised the composition, I transferred the drawings onto lino and carved the images, incorporating intuitive mark making along the way. I hand-printed the linocuts onto various types of paper, mixing colours and layering prints so that each one is unique. I then tore and stitched the prints together, creating new layered artworks that mirror the constant shifts in nature.

I am drawn to the tactile, surprising nature of hand-printing. Each print reveals unexpected textures and marks, which heighten my creativity. I work with Japanese papers and oil-based inks for their strength and ability to hold fine detail, allowing me to layer and stitch without losing the work’s integrity.

Mark making is central to my multidisciplinary practice. Inspired by the Australian landscape — from the tiny finches in the bush to the vast Flinders Ranges — my work captures the ever-changing details of the natural world, inviting viewers to slow down and notice the beauty in transformation.
