Anna is a mixed media artist whose work explores the interaction of colour—how combinations can harmonise or clash to create mood and atmosphere. She is equally drawn to the graphic elements of art, investigating how line, form, and composition come together to create a visually and emotionally cohesive whole. Her practice seeks to distil the essence of the natural world, offering viewers an interpretation shaped by personal feeling and experience. For Anna, painting is an immersive process—one in which the distractions of daily life fall away and creative instinct takes over. “Sometimes you have to begin boldly, establishing the composition with sweeping arcs of line and form. Colour is applied intuitively, with streaks of charcoal guiding the viewer’s eye across the surface. I am constantly aware of the overall balance, considering what works in terms of form, line, colour, and composition. There are also magical moments—times when the work begins to ‘speak’ and guide me, revealing what needs to come next.” These artworks, titled Into the Earth, explore the depth and richness of the natural world through a bold and graphic visual language. Dominated by earthy tones, they evoke a sense of grounding and connection to the land. Strong, deliberate lines guide the viewer’s eye across the composition, creating a dynamic interplay between structure and movement. Through its linear forms and striking contrasts, Into the Earth invites the viewer to reflect on the strength and complexity found within nature, capturing both its raw energy and its underlying order.
