No Excuses - Lisa Turner

Each artwork is painted on a stretched canvas, float framed in solid Tasmanian Oak. measuring 30x30cm. 
 
Artist Statement 
 
Frequenting a range of scenes and scapes, while mentally conceptualising their portrayal on the canvas, Lisa Turner’s works are inspired reimaginings of Australia’s suburbia, coastline and country. Influenced by the elements of light and colour, and captivated by simplistic compositional facets, her art encapsulates the remarkable uniqueness and modesty of her subjects. Extensively photographing many of the land and streetscapes she comes across, Lisa typically directs the lens towards the tree species, waterbodies and structural formations that comprise the scape. Once at the canvas, she lays down a first coat of paint as a means to immediately introduce colour, and produce a surface in which to sketch the work’s preliminary components on. Throughout the painting process, she habitually works across the entire length of the canvas, as opposed to left to right or top to bottom, painting the larger shapes in first, then working down to the minute details. Additionally producing a range of still-life fruit works, in a manner similar to her scapes, Lisa’s art consistently explores the beauty of the ordinary, the uninvolved and the everyday. While many subjects are selected simply out of intrigue and enjoyment, her art profoundly highlights the most distinguishing aspects of the Australian environment.
